Air America… Gone

As of Monday, Air America is off the radio in Chattanooga. WDOD 1310 is going to a new format. I hear they had to downgrade NYC affiliates, too.

I’ll miss the Al Franken Show, Bill Press, and a couple of the weekend local shows. I wasn’t very impressed with anything else on there, anyway. I’m not surprised they aren’t making enough money to stay on the air.

So, anyway… I guess it’s a shame that there will be no competition for the Clear Channel gasbags in Chattanooga… But maybe not - I can’t help but wonder if the whole talk radio format is a liability to political discourse anyway.

Air America used to be on Sirius and then they had some sort of falling out and Sirius dropped it. I rarely listened to it on WDOD because the sound quality was so poor and full of static. I enjoyed it on satellite radio but found it annoying to listen to it on AM radio.

Sirius has Talk Left which is good. The Young Turks are hilarious, Stephanie Miller is okay, Bill Press is good; the others Alex Bennet, Lynne Samuels and Ed Schultz aren’t my favorite but they do have plenty of listeners. The nice thing about Sirius is the reception is good, they can and do say anything, they freely call Bush for what he is: an f*ing moron, and it is funny. Oh yeah and if you are stuck in Timbuktu, you can still listen to it.

I haven’t heard anyone crying about not getting Randi Rhodes anymore..

“Chattanooga values” have triumphed over bitchy liberalism.
