Russia vs Georgia

Personally I don’t think Georgia has a chance. And I don’t think there is a damn thing we can do to help them.

I couldn’t help but chuckle when I read McCain’s bluster.

Yeah. A war with Russia right now should be just about what the doctor ordered.

“The United States and our allies should continue efforts to bring a resolution before the UN Security Council condemning Russian aggression, noting the withdrawal of Georgian troops from South Ossetia, and calling for an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian troops from Georgian territory. We should move ahead with the resolution despite Russian veto threats, and submit Russia to the court of world public opinion.”

The court of world public opinion. Well maybe the Russians are much like the Americans and do not really give a damn what the world public opinion of them is.

Real men don’t care what the world thinks of them do they?

And did anybody see Cokie Roberts yesterday on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos”? She was all atwitter about the fact that Obama is vacationing in Hawaii. She said “yes he has family there and yes Hawaii is a state but the fact of the matter is that it makes it look like he is hanging out in some exotic place. He should have gone to Myrtle Beach!”

I looked at my wife and she looked at me and we both looked back at the television and both started laughing. In my mind it very well could be the dumbest thing I have ever heard a talking head say.

Myrtle Beach my ass.

And yesterday I heard Russia referred to as a “super power” again for the first time in a long, long, long time.

I wondered if in the last few days they have gained something or we have lost something.

I love that: “Yes, Hawaii is a state.” Wow! Way to report the news, Cokie! LOL

There was a woman in church Sunday morning from Georgia. I was sooo tempted to stop and quiz her about the ongoing strife there. Instead, I walked on by. Funnily enough there was a new foreign exchange student from Azerbaijan also. Part of the reason I didn’t speak to the Georgian is that the student had just been introduced & they were happily discussing *something* in Russian… not acting like they were particularly interested in Western interference… heheh

When The inspirational President F.D.Roosevelt devised the United Nations in 1942, his ideal was to form a global coalition against international crises. After the ‘Declaration by United Nations’(Jan 1,1942)the creation of the United Nations became official in 1945.President Roosevelt understood the significance of peace and global stability.
Today - more than half a century after the birth of the U.N - international understanding and cooperation haven’t improved. And more strangely things are getting worse. The Security Council is falling short of its duty:no straight talk with countries in conflict nor clear and effective decision taken against offending political leaders. At this point we wonder to which direction are we driving this terrific instrument of peace that the Security Council- and more importantly the UN - represent. Genocides are taking place, wars are everywhere, poverty is growing. Instead of decisive actions only timid recommendations are made by the UN to settle crises. The world is being governed by fear. But we shouldn’t just sit and hopelesly cry. What is at stake now is our capability to move forward Roosevelt’s tracks. We desperately need to plant the seeds of new hope in us and spread it around us.And as a concentric wave this shining beam of hope will light around the World.
In Barack we can guess the reflection of a new turn in history. Not only in American history but also in the World’s history. He professed change.Change both in domestic policy and international diplomacy. And with the prominent status of the US in the the UN, change in global polity does bode well. Let’s hope
