Strategic Oil Reserves

I was listening to Morning Joe this morning and he was aghast at the notion of taking oil out of the strategic oil reserves.

He said, “isn’t that supposed to be done only in times of war?”

I thought it was a slip of the tongue and then he said the same thing later in a quick interview with Evan Bayh.

Haven’t we been at war now for about five years?

Yeah, but this was a blood war FOR oil, so we get to steal it from the Iraqi children.

:)

They meant similar to WWII, when we were rationing & a lot of the healthy males were busy in Europe saving the Frogs. Lots of production was hampered because the military needed the materials, as well as the oil, to fight something that in November 1941 was unthinkable.

Until then, we’re not needing the reserves to ship over the ME while we’re rebuilding Iraq, right now, I don’t think. Military demand hasn’t been the reason for the increase in oil price, China & India have.

Apparently, the chinese don’t inflate their tires.

I guess I will just have to take comfort in the fact that the Iraqi’s are now free.

And even have an 80 billion dollar surplus!

But I guess you can’t expect them to pay for something we broke.

Yeah… well Scarborough’s right. It should only be used in an emergency situation. We’ll probably never be done with having wars…if we dip into it everytime we decide somebody needs an occupation force in their country we’ll be dry in a year.

I don’t like the Obama pander on this, but that’s just number 68 or something on the list of things I don’t like about Obama. Not that I would consider voting for a worse alternative just because I don’t like him, or anything.

I will add that I make sure to watch a bit of Scarborough, mainly because it’s usually him versus three libs, so I’m able to hear the argument from the left every day. It’s always a good thing to hear different perspectives & you’re sure to get that from his show. Kinda tough when he’s on vacation, since there’s nothing but an echo chamber & I can get that on MSNBC at night (doesn’t cause one to think when it’s an echo-chamber), but his show gives me the lefty ‘arguments’ first thing in the morning, and that’s a good thing.

Also, good for a laugh, when I hear a dude (Capeheart) say something as ignorant as “dunk some three shooters” as his entry in NBA vernacular lore.

Yes, folks, that was the one black guy that you don’t want on your basketball team.

Actually, I enjoy Joe as much as any cable TV pundit.. I very rarely watch any of him, but I like his personality, and he seems at least as smart as any of those other idiots.

The problem with using the strategic oil reserves is this. They have to be replaced and the cost of replacing the reserves will be so much more now than it was when the reserves were originally stored. It would not reduce the price of oil in the long run and it probably would raise the cost.
