Out with Curtis Adams, in with John Bailes

One local race I take personally is the Hamilton County Commission district 8 seat. John’s ad tells it all:

(hat tip Hamilton County Democrats.)

Adams’ seat on the commission is little more than ego-prop for him, a vehicle for him to get on national tv and share his personal wisdom… about why gays shouldn’t be allowed to teach school, for instance. While Hamilton County Schools, where my kids attend have gone to hell, he has carried out a public vendetta, trying to place blame on former school board chief Jesse Register, spent his days explaining the proper role of women in society (home, birthin’, rearin’ babies), and ignored the day to day functions of the county. Like funding and staffing the 911 response center, for instance.

I was shocked & horrified to learn, having kids in the Hamilton County school system, that sometimes they weren’t even issued text-books until several weeks after the year began, and that, when they were issued, they often had to be left at school for other classes… so there was nothing to bring home and use for homework.

I’ve met John Bailes. One thing I can say he is not is part of the good-old-boy network that has dominated Hamilton County politics for so long. He is smart and focused, quiet, and down to earth. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a county commission that isn’t a circus act, with the district 8 seat held by someone other than a self-aggrandizing clown?

By the way, I live in District 6, and my vote will go to John Allen Brooks. But, if you live in the East Ridge area, I urge you to go to the polls next week for John Bailes.

Your readers don’t have to wait until next week to vote! Early voting continues through tomororow (Saturday)! I opted to beat the election day rush and voted today at the election commission and didn’t have to stand in line at all.

Vote early and vote often! ;-D
