Braves Spring Update

“Chipper had a great day,” Cox said. “He’s hit the ball hard all spring.”

That is classic Bobby Cox…he is a players’ “dream” manager.

Cox is a lot like ex-Braves’ ace Greg Maddux in that he feels that there are such things as “good” outs that should reflect well upon a batter and “weak, seeing eye, bloopers” that shouldnt reflect badly upon a pitcher.

Thats what makes Bobby …well, Bobby.

Everyone who wants to see him gone will probably have their wish soon enough…I just wonder, what future Hall of Famer are you going to replace this Hall of Famer with? …Hope you will be happy with the results.

Extra! Extra! Read All About It…Hampton is hurt, yet again!

He’s aggravated his groin…maybe because he was compensating his mechanics due to a prior hammy strain…nevertheless the results are the same.

If he would just pitch 20 games this year, …just 20…then I will take a shot at an 10-7 record from him and be somewhat satisfied. I think his chances of re-signing with Atlanta are about as good as…well maybe Bonds re-signing with the Giants…at 20MM+ per. :)

Escobar is dazzling everyone, Chipper is playing like…well, Chipper (he has his own health issues…as usual) and Tex is doing well.

McCann is not going as well as I would guess but he is still Brian McCann…I want him at the plate with the game on the line.

Frenchy…well, Frenchy is the next Dale Murphy as far as the Braves are concerned. My only concern about Jeff and his possible long-term tenure with the Braves is his sport-killing agent Scott Boras!

Historically, a good spring season for the Braves means bad news for the regular season…I am starting to worry…our record thus far is not that bad.

Other Braves News: What I am extremely happy about …is the newfound presence of starting pitching depth. That is something that we have been missing the past two years. I have a strong feeling that Jurjjens is going to make a statement…a strong statement this year.

If the starting staff can remain healthy then we have a legitimate chance of competing with any staff in the league.

…and with our offense to boot? Atlanta Braves GM Frank Wren just may be on the verge of starting another historical streak of victories!

The Stupid side of Things: Folks, its in my own opinion that the greatest sports figure in Atlanta history may just be…

John Schuerholz!

The way he came into town, the way he informed all personnel that they were NOT to hang their heads down while walking down the hallways, they way he improved the field at the Old Fulton County Stadium because “you cant judge a players defensive abilities if the field isnt in top shape“…what did he do? He brought in the best field guy in the biz…Ed Mangan!

Various teams, including the Phillies, who have built new stadiums in the recent past, have contacted the Braves to inquire about how to properly install and maintain a playing surface.

What else did he do? Oohh, just bring in the next MVP in Terry Pendleton, who is now our hitting coach, and Sid Bream, who scored arguably the most famous run in Atlanta Braves history…Oh yeah, and then he set upon a string of division victories never before seen in the history of sports…much less MLB alone!
