There is a lot of backstory to this. I still recommend Devil’s Knot strongly, to anyone who will read it. With the recent spate of exonerations of wrongfully convicted prisoners, the story of these young men still stands out. The book gives insight into how easily a wrongful conviction and death sentence can be obtained in America. I’ve written about this twice before. Now, new evidence may lead to the convictions being overturned.
Newly available DNA evidence fails to link the three defendants to the crime scene while linking another should-have-been suspect, and destroying the prosecution’s “theory” of satanically inspired ritual abuse and sacrifice. The new evidence was brought out in December, and the defense lawyers are working on getting the three of them a new trial.
