Let’s talk about South Carolina, Barack, and Sweet Caroline
I have to say I’m very tickled about Saturday’s result. I still have some reservations about Obama, and he still has a long uphill climb to get to the nomination. But, it is hard to argue with a win like that one. The one blemish on last night’s result is that Edwards couldn’t pull out a second place finish against Clinton. Apart from that… this is South Carolina - a state that went for Bush 54% to 41% in 2004… and more people voted in the Democratic primary than in the GOP primary. Obama got more votes than John McCain and Mike Huckabee combined. Depending on where you get your stats, Obama may have beaten GWB’s vote count in SC’s 2000 GOP primary - if not, he was just short of it. These are incredible numbers in South Carolina.
Pause, if you haven’t already, to admire the craftmanship of his victory speech… then let’s talk about Caroline Kennedy’s glowing endorsement…
…endorsement wherein she compares BHO favorably with her dad… which is kind of something, but if you watched some of his speeches, including the above, you can get a glimmer of how she’s able to make that astonishing comparison. So, that should help in Massachusetts, maybe even some in California and some of the other Feb. 5 states.
I can’t help but wonder if any other Kennedys might jump on the same bandwagon (oops, I see that Uncle Ted is planning on doing some leg-work for the campaign - come on RW, let’s hear the catcalls…) - and that includes a certain Maria Shriver in California, who brings a recently left-ward creeping Republican Governator into question, too… could we look for a cross-party endorsement? Could we look for an Austrian accent running for Senate as Democrat in the future? Would we want that? (No is the correct answer). But even so, it would make a big ole splash in the media if it happened that way, right?
Thanks for tolerating my ramble… I’ll leave you with some Sox fans at Fenway doing their thing with her song…

I too was inspired by Obama’s speech and impressed by his win in S.C. There have been a few leaders in our history that could bring out the best in Americans. We always seem to find them in times of crisis. If we ever needed one, we need that leader now.
