Aloha!
Well the Dawgs get to play undefeated Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl. This is one of those lose/lose scenerios where if we beat them it will be said we didn’t beat anybody and if we lose it will be a West Virginia / Pittsburgh situation. But we are in the Sugar Bowl which is a wonderful turn of events considering that at the first of the year I would have assumed that a four loss season would have been expected.
I felt terrible for Tennessee quarterback Danny Ainge on Saturday. He made a couple of crucial mistakes for a seasoned senior quarterback to make. And what was the deal with Arian Foster? He ran as if he had never played that position before. He was always tentative and would not hit the holes when they were there. He just looked like he had had a tough night the night before.
I had hoped that Tennessee would beat LSU because I knew that if LSU won they would jump Georgia in the silly BCS rankings. But even if LSU had lost to Tennessee the BCS would have chosen either Oklahoma or Kansas for the championship game so it really didn’t matter. As it now stands LSU will win the championship game without much trouble and that is good for the SEC. Two BCS championships in a row. The SEC has 9 teams going to bowls and that is a good thing. I will be cheering for each and every one of them.
I certainly hope that Georgia does not go into the Sugar Bowl expecting an automatic win. Hawaii pitches and catches as good as any team I have ever seen and they play like a bunch of bees. They are flying around the football and coming from everywhere all of the time. It is not a slam dunk. We will have to be ready and we will have to play with seriousness and intensity or we will go home with our tails between our legs and a very red face.
But once again it has been a marvelous season. So much better than I could have hoped for considering the youth of the team. Even my best case scenerios had us losing three games in the regular season but as it turned out the only embarrassing loss we experienced was in Knoxville. The loss to South Carolina was not so much embarrassing as inexplicable.
But it is on to New Orleans. The month of December is going to be the slowest month of the year. Will January 1st ever get here?

Ah, I’m remembering that famous Larry Munson “It’s raining sugar” broadcast . . . .
