I am no expert on Islam or anything else for that matter but when I see countries like Dubai I see what looks to me like modernity and progress.

Every political party and religious organization has its share of extremists. As far as I know there are Muslims in America and somehow they seem to manage to get along with their non-Muslim neighbors.

I don't see any way to eliminate Islam from the world. It is one of the big three. They must learn to live with us just as we must learn to live with them.

And I think on a larger scale that is already happening and has been happening for years.

The biggest problem I see for Islam is its ability to live with itself. It seems to me that more Sunni's and Shia's are killing each other than they are killing unbelievers.

A house divided will not stand. Muslims should take heed.

Wafa Sultan should know that Islam has no history of permitting internal dissent and it has had not record of tolerating plural approaches to god. The Islamic idiom is antithetical not just to secularism and democracy but it has been carefully shaped over the centuries to equate non-Islamic perspectives as evil. Modernity and progress are possible only when the mainstream religion in a society is capable of downsizing itself in response to individual urges towards greater freedom. This capacity to automatically downsize itself has been totally lacking in Islam and hence its violent manifestations. All the other religions of the world, although rooted in violence and bigotry in equal measure, have permitted downsizing. Islam is the only exception. Hence the dangers posed by Islam to the rest of the world. R K Iyer in Bangalore

Wafa Sultan is a very. very brave woman. Not everything she said about other religions was correct, but she is right in that no religion should try to impose their way of life on others. In a politically correct society, it is difficult to voice ones opinion on these matters as one can be accused of racist remarks. She has my admiration and respect - not that a strong woman like her needs it.

There is no shortage of atrocities on each and every side of every issue. Nobody is ever all right or all wrong. I love her message to the Muslims. And I am sure that her message is a message that many, many Muslims already agree with. All Muslims are not suicide bombers any more than all Christians are abortion clinic bombers.

The problem of radical fanatical Muslims in the Muslim community must be dealt with primarily by other Muslims. There is no way the "let's kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out" strategy will work.

I guess you have to watch other clips to see the full debate. I'm not sure if the little wormy guy was a participant or a moderator. The lady and the bearded man both butchered history/current events somewhat, but the bearded man was ***way*** further out there.

The clips I saw on the intertubes were all edited to give just one perspective, which I thought was weird and a bit unfortunate. Nevertheless, I agree with Buck. I was proud to be a "secular human being" when she insisted that this is what she was. I didn't care for the way she painted Islam with a broad brush and took words of the Prophet about as much out of context as one could take the words of Joshua headed to slaughter the Amakelites, while whitewashing Buddhist and Jewish violence. Other than that, she made a very strong presentation.

Wow. You go, girl. Can we clone this attitude?

One thing I noticed that's very different from American talking heads shows is they were respectful to each other insomuch as they let each other speak their full, complete sentences. On Fox or CNN the three of them would've been bickering back and forth and nobody would've been able to complete a thought.

It was sad how close-minded the second man was. You could see the contempt in his eyes for her, as if he were being lectured by a child. Or the woman she was, which in his eyes was little better than a child. There was no hope for him, and that's too bad.
