Helluva Weekend

I just want to brag a little and say I had a great weekend, with good company and good times.

Friday night, I caught the Dismembered Tennesseans opening nightfall, listened to the first number by Cadillac Sky on the way back to the car… then off to have a nice Longhorn dinner with the better half and the larger stepchild. I was plagued by an excruciating toothache - but I had enough fun that the toothache won’t be what I remember about it.

Saturday, Elder Mountain where I spent about three hours working on the old unicycle, and managed to get on top of it without leaning on anything at least 4 times. Had some good rides. Then home for a shower & back out to get a haircut & oil change. Back home, get that kid, and out to the Y. That’s my first visit on a membership we’ve been paying for for over a year. The boy put me to shame, but I can’t help it. He’s bigger than me. Next, pick up my homey and off to the opening of the brand new Riverfront Nights concert series. Playing on the barge was the Prodigals from NYC, Ireland, and North Carolina. They put on a fantastic show, with a bassist who belongs in some kind of bassist hall of fame, and all the makings of a big-time fusion act. There are pictures:

Here, the lead man comes out amongst the crowd (which was bigger than it looks in this photo). Nice use of a wireless mic & nice gesture to the audience, says me. He payed a special visit to a beautiful big dog (not pictured), and later came out to join in the sidewalk crowd’s attempt at jigging a hornpipe (or whatever you call this style of dancing).

Two of the Molly Maguires were present (and enjoyed two shouts-out from the Prodigals). Several of the Molly’s regulars were in attendance, and a good time was had by all.

Sunday, church, then back to Elder Mountain to hike with homey & kid. Took some pictures there, too, but the weather was less cooperative, and even worse, the camera lens seems to have been blurred by some out of place moisture. I won’t share those shots. We made the (what? 3 mile? 5 mile?) trail in what seemed like no time. Then out on some regular trips, back home to cut grass until that was called for rain.

The toothache continued to be a problem, but like I said - too much fun to worry about a tooth. Hopefully it will be out, or at least nerve-dead in not much over a week. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did, but I doubt it. And don’t worry - only 5 more days til another shot at it.
