Health Care

I remember laughing about a guy who called 911 from the emergency room because he could not get treatment fast enough. Emergency rooms do suck.

But this just is not funny.

I can’t help but wonder if the hatred of all things Hispanic had anything to do with this. Police were in the process of arresting her as she died.

We are a nation of laws you know.

Since this took place in Northern Mexico (otherwise known as Los Angeles) I’m curious as to why you’re basically charging racism?

And I can see how you would reach the conclusion that I was charging racism even though I did not intend to. In fact I had pondered not even putting that sentence into the post because I knew it would be open to that interpretation but I still couldn’t help but wonder.

I am surrounded by lots of good people whose opinion is “these bastards come into our country and take our jobs and mooch off of our system and they should be herded up into trains and sent back to where they came from.”

It is not a giant leap from that position to the position of “let the bitch die in the floor”.

There is a reason why this woman was allowed to die on the emergency room floor. I was just wondering if the current zeitgeist of this country had anything to do with it.

Maybe it was just apathy. And it is a fact that it is statistically far more probable that a Rodriquez would die on the emergency room floor of a Los Angeles hospital than a Smith.

But I think that legal aliens take just as dim a view of illegal aliens as most natural born citizens. So it is not a racist thing. And for all I know the woman could be just as much a citizen of this country as I am. How can you know unless you ask to see their papers?

Well, I’m certainly not inclined to go along with the ‘herd them up’ mentality as it brings too many Aushwitz reverences to the forefront, but I definitely don’t think it’s irrational for an American citizen to wonder why folks who willingly flaunt our borders are seemingly above reproach when it comes to the legal system. I don’t know anyone who is anti-immigrant, per se, but when it comes to ILLEGAL immigrants there is a definite difference. I have Mexican neighbors 6 houses down the street and they’re just as legal as I am and I’m sure they don’t think that it’s untoward to insure that the folks coming into our country at least sign the guestbook upon entry.

Well, the first thing that came to my mind was “incompetent employees who should be flogged right before they’re sued and taken to jail, where they belong”. I think the other is part of the growing mindset that is taking place amongst the right and left that assumes that anyone who thinks differently than ‘myself’ is, shall we say, not basing their opinions on rational assumptions (in this case, ‘they probably didn’t act because she was a Latino……even though Latinos make up a huge proportion of the local pop, there)? It’s no small stretch, I know that if I want less than stellar treatment then I need only check into the ‘government subsidized’ Grady hospital.

Which is part of the reason that I want government nowhere near health care, but that’s another topic.

And it is a fact that it is statistically far more probable that a Rodriquez would die on the emergency room floor of a Los Angeles hospital than a Smith.

Basic logic. “Rodriguez” denotes a high probability of being here illegally, thus denotes a high probability of lower income & no insurance, thus denotes a high probability of seeking health care in a location that is less apt to inquire about citizenship/ability to pay.

Then again, I’d rather go to that crappy hospital in LA and take my chances than one in Mexico, so there you go……

In the end, those folks in that ER are bound to be in huge trouble and their careers are likely over…for good reason. Her name probably had nothing to do with it & unless I know something more then I’m surely not going to infer that they’re so bigoted that they’d let a woman suffer to DEATH simply because she’s a Latino.

Really, we’ve become far too fast in pulling the furthest-step-available when assuming conclusions. Being against amnesty doesn’t mean one is anti-immigrant, being anti-affirmative-action doesn’t mean one is racist, being anti-tax-cut doesn’t mean one is for income redistribution, being against universal health care doesn’t mean one is for people dying in the sewers. Things are tough enough w/o assuming the worst in folks.

Things are tough enough w/o assuming the worst in folks.

It is a character flaw of mine that I will continue to work on eliminating.
