Mixed Signals

Reading and watching the news can get confusing. You hear and see so many opinions from so many people from so many different angles that it is sometimes hard to merge it all into one coherent position.

For example, John McCain says the government in Iraq cannot order the United States to withdraw the troops.  I never really believed that they could. They can ask. They can implore. But they cannot order it to be done. It all boils down to who is really calling the shots and it seems reasonable to me that the occupying force is the one in the catbird seat.

But then Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell says that if they ask us to leave we will be glad to comply.

They can’t but if they do we will.

WTF?

If this confuses me then it seems certain that it is confusing to them. I guess they are afraid to ask because they don’t know if we will or if we won’t and they themselves are not even sure if they want us to or not. If we will what will they do then? If we won’t what will they do then?

From what I have read the new light at the end of the tunnel is September. Supposedly by September we should know if the new strategy is working or not.

As one who was adamantly against the war from the first time it was ever mentioned I still would like to see some kind of mutually beneficial outcome. I have no vested interest in seeing failure in Iraq. I don’t even know what success or failure would look like.

Frankly I am just sick of the whole thing.

Mix politicians and a war and you get chaos !!

Amen Paul. Sometimes I wonder if we would have war at all without politicians.
