Back to the Salt Mines

… but only after a pleasant weekend, away from work. Truth be told, Saturday kind of sucked for me. It was a beautiful day, and I felt too crappy to get out, do anything, or enjoy it. I blame the preceding Monday through Friday. I saved alll my outings and chores for Sunday. Miraculously, most of them fit. Sunday was also a beautiful day, if about 10 degrees warmer than one would like for a walk in the sun. I don’t know if that was what kept people away, but it seemed the attendance was down for the Strides of March (news story; no mention of attendance except that it numbered in the “hundreds”). That was unfortunate, because normally these events are a helluva fun, and a great way for Chattanooga Cares to raise funds. I’m not sure the organizers are doing a good job of promoting the event; I found most people I mentioned it to at church Sunday morning had not heard about it until that morning during the announcements. Anyhoo…

Here are the five early showing UU Chatt participants at the Sunday event. We had two more who straggled in a little later…. If Ricky promises not to make fun of the little guy, then I’m the one on the left in this snapshot:

It’s time to go back to work, carrying a bit of a sunburn, but in high spirits at least for the time being. Here’s wishing everyone a nice week.

Back to the salt mines indeed.

For some reason I dreaded it a little more this morning than usual. Maybe it was the wonderful weather we had over the weekend (if you can call 89 degrees on March 24th wonderful)

I can’t believe this weather will hold up. My daddy told me that he saw a Monarch butterfly this weekend. He said it was the earliest he has ever seen a Monarch butterfly in this neck of the woods.

Weather like this makes it hard to take your seat behind a computer screen and take threatening phone calls.

But hell. There is a mortgage to pay.

I’m sorry I missed the fun!

Strides was under new management this year. Perhaps that would account for the apparent drop in attendance. Also, isn’t it usually earlier in March? A lot of people were coming off spring break this weekend. Also, the later you go in March, the more events and activities you have competing for the public’s attention.

Cripes, you’re a lot younger than I thought.

Whippersnapper! :)

I’m just little. I was born in ‘72.

By the way… when we went for lunch after the walk, the dude next to me, with gray in his beard, got carded for his beer. I didn’t. Weird, huh?

I’ve been carded about 5 or 6 times in my life. In my twenties I looked like I was in my mid-30s & now that I’m 40 I have folks tell me that I look like I’m in my mid-30s (still). Whenever I *do* get carded, I always say the same thing: “God bless you, for making me a least FEEL young”.

From the one or two photos I’ve seen at TIA, I honestly thought you were in your 30s. Are you sure it’s healthy to be cut like that after 40?
