Epistemology Test
This teapot sized tempest got me thinking. I think it really does all depend on what qualifies as “real”, “knowledge”, blah blah blah. Take this simple test, and then spend the rest of the day wondering why you did:
1. a) Do you agree that the Mona Lisa is good art?
b) If so, is the statement, “the Mona Lisa is good art” a statement of knowledge?
2. a) Killing should be avoided when possible, true or false?
b) If true, is the statement, “killing should be avoided when possible” a statement of knowledge?
3. a) Do you accept Einstein’s theories of relativity as excellent descriptors of how the natural world behaves on non-quantum scales?
b) If so, do you think Einstein’s theories of relativity represent knowledge?
c) Even if you know they are incorrect in some way?
d) If you do know they are incorrect in some way, is that knowledge?
Now score your answers. If you got more than three correct, you are a first rate epistemological engineer.
