Dude, he was being facetious. He even said so the next day. I know because I still have the mp3s of the show that prove it - he was laughing & using it as a mirror to the McNabb controversy. This isn’t debatable, it was covered in detail on the show.

Which means David Brock’s outfit has still never gotten one thing right in its history. Why you guys still use them as a resourse is beyond me…..

No, Buck, he never wavered from his commentary on McNabb. Part of it was right (that the media was hopeful because of his skin color….hard to deny that one, especially since so many have admitted as such) and some of it was simply wrong (that McNabb wasn’t as good as advertised, as he was one of the best in the NFL at the time).

He stated on his show that the commentary on Grossman was part of his schtick. Apparently, the recurring theme of not-getting-it is continuing (something Limbaugh mentioned during that same show, as well. It can be forgivable when someone doesn’t “get” a parody, even if one is in the minority during that time. It’s a harder sell when someone tells you that it’s a parody (such as in the case of sadlyno, where their cluelessness outweighs the notion that they’re simply ignorant) and you still run with the notion that, no, you know better and they were really meaning what YOU SAY they were meaning.

Limbaugh (and his fans, who realized the schtick from the get-go….I laughed when I heard it because I ‘got it’) knows what he means more than the Soros lackeys at media matters, who also were amongst the throngs arguing that - yes, Virginia - those Rather memos were legit, as well.

It’s okay to admit that Brock’s outfit was el-wrongo on this and still be in good standing ideologically with your bretheren, Buck. I’m catching hell from my family for coming out against Newt, but I’m standing firm….but mine’s arguable. media matters has no standing on this, at all. They’re in the same boat as sadly, no, trying to argue authenticity for something that was labled as “parody”. Sort of the opposite of John Edwards, who is trying to sell the notion that virtually every word from Amanda Marcotte was ‘really’ satire, when the entire thinking world knows what’s going on.

I wouldn’t lie to you: Limbaugh said it was a play on the McNabb situation. The lemmings at mediamatters took the bait, which was expected. Heck, the MSM knew it was schtick, hence their silence on the matter when they pounced on the McNabb commentary.

But is it smart for Limbaugh to dredge up memories of the time when back on national television, while under the influence of drugs, he said, in essence, that a nigger can’t play quarterback? Sure he did not use those exact words but it was definitely the spirit of the comment.

I think I would find something else to joke about.

Personally I still do not believe it was parody. It is consistent with his beliefs. In his mind the media builds up the black quarterback and tries to make him look better than he is while tearing down the white quarterback and making him look worse than he is.

I think Rush is playing around on the banks of Lake Lah-Lah again and it is just a matter of time until he falls in.

No, it was not and you could not be more wrong. The UNEDITED text is easily available on the web and if you’ll read what he said - instead of relying on synopses of what people who hate him say what he ‘really meant’ - then you wouldn’t make that statement, as it isn’t based on his actual commentary (which was criticizing the media, the part that he was absolutely correct about, btw). If I say Dennis Rodman wasn’t as good as the media portrayed & that they kept hyping him on ESPN because of his race, I could be right or I could be wrong, but it doesn’t make me a racist.

I stated at the time and I stated in the earlier comment that he was simply wrong to say that McNabb wasn’t “all that good”….he was/is among the best, period. You’re setting up the scenario that anyone who criticizes a black quarterback is racist, which buttresses Rush’s notion that black QBs are hyped beyond their actual stature based on white-guilt.

Then am I not wasting my time trying to convince you that - based on every piece of actual evidence, btw - it belies reality? I “believe” Christ is my savior & nothing you say can change my mind, for example. If you “believe”, despite everything Limbaugh has said before & after, that you know someone else’s “true intentions” even more than they admit, then there is no basis for any discussion, is there? You know….and if anyone (namely, the person making the statement) says otherwise, they’re either wrong or lying. Is that really how you want things to be left? BTW, Michael Irvin said right after Rush’s McNabb comments “Rush is right”. Is gangsta-athlete Michael Irvin also a closet racist?

In closing: Does that mean I can’t say that Barack Obama is getting an unbelievable amount of positive press, well beyond what he deserves, because of liberal white guilt on the part of the MSM? I can’t say that the media, which is full of left-leaning Democrats, is openly rooting for Obama to be the “rock star” that they call him because they hope that the first black president is a Democrat? That’s what’s happening, IMO, and I don’t think I’m a racist for pointing that out. I could be right or I could be wrong, it’s just my opinion, but it doesn’t make me a racist & it doesn’t mean that I don’t think a “nigger” can be a qualified candidate. That’s a serious charge, Buck, and in my opinion you’re throwing it around rather easily.

The media, especially the sports media, hypes skin color. For recent evidence I’ll point to the Super Bowl, where for a week the top story was the color of the head coaches’ skin. I’m not saying that it should be ignored (especially the coaches) but trying to hint that people shouldn’t discuss certain topics (by way of saying that perhaps Rush shouldn’t discuss this) is using political correctness as a means to stifle dissent and innoculate certain subjects from criticism. I don’t subscribe to that & I’m working on a post that envelopes this notion. White southern rednecks, fundamentalist Christians and, yes, skin color, is not above being poked fun at.

You live in the south Ricky and I assume you always have. I don’t know whether or not you are a football fan but have you never heard any of your friends or fellow football fans say, “well, a nigger can’t play quarterback. They are very athletic and they can run fast and they can hit hard but they just can’t think as fast as a white man”. I assume the same sentiment is held in the north but since I do not and have not ever lived in the north I will not drag the Yankees into this.

Rush is what Rush is. Rush believes what Rush believes. And the longer there is a microphone stuck in front of his face the more the chances are that what he is and what he believes will be made clear to the people who listen him.

Probably because I was a basketball player & especially in the south, the overwhelming majority of those athletes were black, but I never heard even a hint of that. However, that sort of thinking had to have been at least in place in some areas, hence the lack of professional black QBs in the NFL, until recently & I realize that my own experience is anecdotal. The best QBs in my areas were always the black QBs & several had good careers at colleges (Quincy Carter comes to mind).

Oh, I disagree, wholeheartedly.
I recall a local writer who wrote that unless Steve McNair won the heisman trophy while in college, the voting was racist, for example. The guy was openly rooting for McNair (who was great, don’t get me wrong) because he was a black guy putting up big numbers at a division I-AA college, IIRC. He wouldn’t have cared if the same numbers came from a white QB, he cared that a black QB wasn’t going to win the heisman. There was a good bit of press about it & William Rhoden even wrote an article attempting to soothe the discussion of ‘racism’ being in the cards should McNair to have lost (which he rightly did). I’ll say it out loud: the liberal media was desirous for a black man to do well at the quarterback position. Nothing wrong with my saying that, either.

The shocking thing that Rush said was that McNabb wasn’t “all that good”, IMO. The guy was freaking great. Instead, the media pounded on his statement about the media and somehow that got turned into Rush saying that a black man couldn’t play QB (which you reiterated).

I recall Stuart Scott, within twenty seconds of Sportscenter’s post-super-bowl show saying “you can’t blame Donavan” for the Eagles’ loss. When was the last time you heard someone on ESPN say that the QB (especially one who, let’s be honest, didn’t come through at the end) wasn’t at fault when his team lost? Did anyone tell that to Peyton Manning prior to two weeks ago?

It appears, and correct me if I’m wrong, that you’re going with the concept: “Rush is a racist & I’m waiting on something to prove that so I can pounce on it and use it as evidence….but until then, I’m sticking with my original analysis”

Okay….like I mentioned earlier, I can’t really debate something that you already believe in your heart. I’ve been listening to the guy since 1990 & have yet to hear the first HINT of something akin to what you claim.

I guess I might as well chime in on this. I will, for one, back up Buck’s anecdotal evidence - I’ve heard many people express, in one way or another, that black people can’t play qb. And, yes - that is the stereotype that the media was putting McNabb up against.

I have trouble figuring out why the media using McNabb as a counter to that stereotype was something Rush felt he should criticize on air, especially by claiming (in spite of the facts) that McNabb wasn’t a good player.

I’m all for giving people the benefit of the doubt… and contra Buck, I won’t go so far as to say with certainty that Rush was saying “The media is stupid to try to say otherwise; everybody knows N*’s can’t play quaterback”. But I really would like to know why it bothers him to hear the media pointing out that black people *can* play quarterback.

And, I’ll agree with RW - this comment about Grossman was a joke. I’ll agree with Buck, too, somewhat - it was meant to reinforce his own righteousness about his previous remarks about McNabb, by taking a jab at those who criticized those remarks. In my view, such a joke was in poor taste. Whatever his motivations for hatin’ on the McNabb lovin’ media, it’s safe to say that, at best, he was indulging his own ego - certainly not trying to accomplish anything worthwhile by them. Considering how many people (understandably) took his remarks as racist & were aggravated by them, it would have been more considerate to let sleeping dogs lie - rather than taking another jab at the same folks.

He was saying that McNabb wasn’t as good as advertised. He was wrong in that assesment, IMO, but his contention was that McNabb was overly-praised in the sports media because they were hopeful for his success in no small part because of his skin color. For present evidence, I introduce defense exhibit A: Barack Obama’s treatment by the media to-date.

Agreed. It was funny, though, to me. I knew what was going on when he did it…he was clearly taking a jab at most of the sports media.

Yeah - he just picked the dumbest, and most insensitive topic upon which to take that jab. Challenging racial stereotypes in sports is actually one of the *good* thing that the sports media does. That and providing fodder for comic impressionists.

Then we should be seeing the Dirk Nowitski love any day now, instead of more Lebron/Kobe obsession. Been a long spell since Mr. Bird.

BTW, in closing out this discussion, I think my job (namely, pointing out that Brock’s group was caught attempting to dishonestly portray a situation, which was what I alledged from the get-go) is done…..I know you guys dislike El Rushbo & that’s fine, my intention was never to try to get you to agree with me on that measure.

You did your job well. I always watch for this crap from Brock & co - thought I find they do get many things right.
