I will never understand ‘em.
The science guys tell me that the gravity is so strong that even light can’t escape from them but now scientists are watching gas and light pour out of one.
I am sure there is a perfectly logical explanation that I won’t understand.

My Ex-Mother-In-Law is from the M87 galaxy.
She still spews gas til this very day!
Man, to be honest, I am very interested in that stuff. But once I start reading…its like reading something that smijer has written. I can follow along with a paragraph or so …but then I have to see the movie.
Its weird that people speculate one day as to whether or not there are black holes…and then the next day you read something that presumes that there are black holes and the readable effects are …(?)
I am just wondering, …if there are black holes…how do we know if we are looking at the front or the back of one? …if we are looking at the back of one then that could explain this article.
Then again, I am better suited to try to persuade people how a mediocre baseball team is going to win the World Series…lol.
Yeah – that’s only the matter & light that falls inside the event horizon. These jets never make it to the event horizon because of incredibly strong magnetic fields that eject them forcibly.
Funny, though – you might want to read this about thermal radiation from black holes.
Yes, gravity is very strong, and yes if you are close *enough* even light cannot escape it. But if you are far enough, you can be in orbit around a blackhole for billions of years. Black holes don’t *suck*. It is actually fairly hard to fall into a black hole. You have to loose enough angular momentum.
As to how to produce the jets. Well, I’ll let Phil Plait explain it in this YouTube movie.

Judging by the youtube I can’t tell how in the world you would ever know if you were looking at the front or the back of a black hole.
As the song says, “how can I go forward if I don’t know which way I am facing?”
Thanks guys. It is an interesting subject but one that I know I will never come close to understanding.
