Afternoon links

I’d like to see the black sites come down, too – but no rush to destroy evidence, please.

If all your buds are chatting about genetic imprinting at your next bowling tournament, you’ll need this excellent primer so you won’t feel left out of the conversation.

Via John Shuck (also commenting on the Ehrman book), a simple quiz – maybe not a good representation of “higher criticism”, but interesting to take, nonetheless.

What turns galaxies pink? Embarrassment?

Jeremy Jones was a H.S. classmate of mine – now a big shot in the Peach state and a speaker at yesterday’s Ringgold Tea Party.

Apparently someone whispered to Ace that the “C” word for women is a lot like the “N” word for black people, because he changed the original headline to obscure the word. I can attest that it was originally not obscured. Or maybe no one gave him a clue and he’s just trying to maintain a G rating. You may see some four letter words written here, but you won’t find that one – you especially won’t find it used as invective against a woman.

File under dumb criminals.

Witherington on Ehrman part V is disappointing. I can only say that the closing, a second hand review of a miraculous phone call from the dead, fits well with the increasingly apologetic tone of the piece. It’s not about Ehrman or the Bible any more – it’s about Witherington’s belief and his displeasure at anything that does not embrace and support this belief. It’s a shame -the critique started off pretty strong.

  • Man, I have been so immersed in Vonnegut now for quite a while. I told you I was going to read “The Sirens of Titan” but before I got to it I had to download and read “A Man Without A Country”.

Never have I laughed like I laughed at “Breakfast of Champions”. And then I’ll be damned if I didn’t cry at the end.

“Make me young! Make me young! Make me young!” I love Kilgore Trout.

There is a chance that I am going to read every word the man ever wrote before I read anything else. After I get the grass cut this afternoon I’ll be curling up with the Kindle.

“Downgraded: Based on the dirty laundry Slublog is airing on Susan Roesgen, I am officially downgrading her to “scrunt.” She aspires one day to be a c*. At her interview for CNN, she said her five-year plan was to become a cunt, after spending a period of time learning the ropes of being a slunt.”

Not quite on the level as calling your political opponents “teabaggers” or racists, but Ace’s site isn’t high-brow. All the “I’d hit it” post should’ve been a giveaway. :)

  • Hope you don’t mind I edited that comment. We don’t go much further than hell or damn on this site, and there’s a bright line on race-, gender-, or ethnic epithets of that nature.

Thanks, I thought about it after I’d posted….it was a straight cut n’ paste.
