I didn’t vote for him. He says some weird things. But, basically, I like and respect him. This is a bit of a belated “Congratulations” post to Ron Littlefield for his re-election as mayor of the city of Chattanooga.
I’ve never met him to shake his hand, but I’ve seen him at a handful of public appearances. One that made an impression on me was when he was one of the few white people on stage (or in the building, really) at the Bessie Smith Hall during the centennial commemoration of the Ed Johnson lynching. He didn’t have to be there, but he chose to – and I respect that choice.
Despite his financial and political success, he’s never left his home-burb of Brainerd, even though he could have easily moved to a McMansion in a mostly white neighborhood anywhere in Chattanooga. I have to respect that.
And, he promises to work on getting a more fuel efficient fleet of trucks and to “increase” curbside recycling. I hope he does.
And, that’s about it. I hope he’ll do a good job.
