Posting on the fly – I haven’t had time to read up on this yet, but it may be relevant to denizens of the greater Chattanooga (that’s right, PZ – one ‘n’) area: Heavy Metal rich sludge breaking containment, flowing into Tennessee River and our water supply.
Update: More info: The New York Times says:
A sample taken near the intake for the water supply of Harriman, Tenn., a nearby town, met standards for drinking water, said Gilbert Francis Jr., a spokesman for the authority. He said heavy rain and freezing temperatures were probably to blame for the breach.
Apparently a retention barrier has been erected to keep the waste out of the river. I would say it’s safe for us to go back to drinking out of the toilet.
