But they don’t tell you what it is…

Ok… play the video.. You can stop after the first chord… Just hear it…

Like the people described in the article, I start hearing the lyrics in my head as soon as those weirdly modulating longitudinal waves strike my eardrum. It never occurred to me that no one knew what the chord was – but it it is wierd enough that I couldn’t be surprised by it.

That chord has been, apparently, identified with the magic of math. They just won’t tell us what it is. The one hint they give is one I think that a listener could figure out without the help of mathematics – that a piano is involved. A musician would probably have figured out also that the piano chord involved is an F major. But anyway, it’s neat… and I’d like to know what to strum on the guitar to get the rest of it… but they don’t tell us.

Dr. Brown deduces that another George—George Martin, the Beatles producer—also played on the chord, adding a piano chord that included an F note impossible to play with the other notes on the guitar.

…that sums up everything right there.

As a longtime guitar player, I must admit that I have never heard of the uproar involving this ..um, chord.

Next, try earing out some old Jimmy Page.

People use different tunings for different reasons…Pink Floyd really paved the way for the sonic revolution in studio production. Before then everything “different” had to be constructed in a rather archaic way.

I would be interested to hear Hendrix in one of todays studios…it might be better…or it might just over produce something that should not have been messed with in the first place.

People sometimes place too much emphasis on trying to capture every note as opposed to the emotional intent of the song.

Nice article Smij…you got me on this one.
