Are you smarter than a five-termer?

Take the civics literacy quiz. Find your score. How did you do against the average 78.1%? Me? I missed four scoring 87.88% to outperform the average, but not by enough to make me feel smart.

Now, bewail the sorry state of American politics when you compare your score (or the average respondent’s score) to the scores of respondents who hold or have held elective office in the U.S.

By the way, of those that I missed, one was of the “I did not know that!” variety. One was “I think both answers were flawed/unclear, but my answer not signifcantly worse than the ‘correct’ answer”. Two were “Doh! I should have read the options more closely”. I’m not sure that all questions fit neatly into the “civcs” category. I believe that some fall better under “history” or “economics”. Bias? Reading the questions and answers, I would make my guess that the person(s) who put them together were conservatives, however it doesn’t appear that they skewed the methodology too seriously.

  • I wouldn’t get too worked up about this; I scored 100%, but with a PhD in Amercan History I had a lot of pressure on me to score that well, and I also thought that a lot of the questions were contained subtle bias and were deliberately ambiguous and confusing. This was particularly true of the economic questions, and of the constitutional questions as well, which reflected very distinct assumptions about the way the world worked and did not allow credible alternatives in their place. Plus I resent people who are paid outrageous salaries to sit around in privately funded Washington “Think Tanks” thinking up ways to make the rest of us look and feel more stupid than we are, rather then putting those brilliant minds together actually trying to SOLVLE some of the serious problems which face our nation and the world at this critical historical moment.

Meanwhile, this is the most truthful comment I’ve read on politices in the past 48 hours: “Republicans are the political party who run for public office based on the platform that government doesn’t work to help people…and then go on to prove it….

  • 93.94 bitches! 31 out of 33 and that is with a C average high school diploma.

    Missed #8 and #29

Don’t let my C average high school years fool you. I blame girls and marijuana.

I was after all the valedictorian of Carnes Creek Elementary school way back in 1970 :-)
