Obama on Purpose

I read rather than listened to BO’s acceptance speech. I liked some of the words he used. These are his words about purpose:

… part of what has been lost these past eight years can’t just be measured by lost wages or bigger trade deficits. What has also been lost is our sense of common purpose – our sense of higher purpose. And that’s what we have to restore.

I’d say these past 20 years… but you get the idea. Earlier in the address, Obama referred to America as a family – that’s what we aren’t and what we should become again. I have a few selected a few more nuggets from this speech that I think show how Obama thinks and that define what really matters in this election. I’ll post them one at a time, by topicality.

Pity (not listening); the man gives a fine speech–and that one was. But I listened to the words, too… and was impressed with it from several angles–calling us to a common purpose (and laying some of what that will be out–like getting off of Middle East oil completely within a decade) being one of them.

  • You do need to find time to sit and watch it. It was stunning to say the least. As Joe Scarbourough said this morning, never have I seen a politician set the bar so high and then shatter all expectations.

    It really was that good.

My favorite part was when he was discussing the Republicans “ownership” society and then saying it is time that they owned their failure.

Amen brother. If ever a party deserved a complete and total rejection at the polls it is now.

They have done nothing to earn or deserve my vote. A vote for McCain just shows a willingness to throw good money after bad.
