[...] I was reading Tête-à-Tête-Tête and his weight loss progress. I’m glycemic indexing, and it seems to work, but when you throw that much fiber at a person, how can there be room for anything but success? I should get a rebate from the Oatmeal Council. [...]

You're right about the peanuts Ricky. It had to be water retention. The weight went away as soon as I stopped eating them.

Thanks Paul. I need all of the commending I can get.

One handful would be tough but I think it would be doable. In fact I had considered measuring out 1/4 of a cup or whatever a "serving" is and limiting it to that. Maybe 1/4 cup is a handful. My hands are bigger than my legs are long.

And you're right about the weight. It had to be water retention because as soon as I stopped the peanuts and doubled up on my water intake the weight went back down just as quickly as it went up.

By this time next month 277 would be nice. We'll see what happens.

FYI, if peanuts/nuts are your weakness, try this: have one handful every day. If you can get by without the salted version, one handful of mixed nuts is extremely good for you as they hold the essential fat (yes, there is good fat) that the body needs in order to flourish. And if you want proof, I can think of none better than informing you that a handful of unsalted nuts is a staple of almost every professional BODYBUILDER'S daily regimen. Not weightlifters, bodybuilders. Now THAT means they're healthy. The key is to keep it at one handful, which is like telling a redneck to keep it at one beer. :)

I restarted my diet on Monday. My wife's illness last month coupled with my own two weeks ago caused a slight setback. I've already lost some weight so I need to keep it off while gaining back the upper-body mass that I'd lost (a tougher thing for me than losing weight).

About the salted peanuts. Don't sweat it. Unless you ate a huge amount, the weight you gained is simply water weight caused by the excess salt. Unless you have high blood pressure, it's no problem: you'll end up peeing it out within 24-36 hours. Just laying off the salt for a day & drinking a lot of water washes it away. I usually gain 3 pounds after a mexican dining experience (a lot of chips & salsa) and lose it back within two days.

You are awesome, Buck.
