If/when this passes, will they start hammering on immigrants who do not measure up to their standards? "Oh, well, I see you're from Guatemala. Well, even though you're a naturalized citizen in this '1st World' nation of ours, you came here from a '3rd World' country, and therefore you will continue to be treated like one. No primo healthcare, no 'extra rights', like the ones we have. In fact, you're just a doormat in our world. Enjoy!"

If the tables were turned on some of these people, I'm sure they'd be kicking and screaming about being "oppressed" and they're rights being violated. It should not, and should never, be up to any local, state, national or world governing body to determine "what's right for the people" when it comes to personal preferences. Women fought right oppression for many years, blacks fought it too, and now we have a "new boogeyman" in terms of gay people that "we need to keep at bay". Oooooh, they're so scary and evil. Whatever.

If the government's argument is that two people of the same sex who want to be married "desecrates the sanctity of marriage", then that's bullshit. Some of those "devine leaders" in the Tennessee state government, and any other government that feels the same way should look in the mirrors and check their own marriages. How many have been divroced? Divorce destroys the sanctity of marriage. How many of them have had an affair? Being unfaithful destroys the sanctity of marraige. I could go on.

Really, aren't there other pressing issues in this world other than if two men or two women want to be married? I can think of countless others things that supercede this bullshit.

This is beautiful. Blogs across the state need to take up this call. Thank you.

For West Tennesseans (and others), this link will take you to a site with information on voter canvassing opportunities (next one: August 19) and more in Memphis. This is an issue that concerns every Tennessean, gay, straight, or what have you. This is an issue that concerns every Tennesseans who is an ally of civil liberty.
