Read, or Plug Your Ears
dKos diary is a good read, unless you don’t like hearing these things. If that’s the case, plug your ears good - because it’s going to get more difficult to ignore this.

You know my role in this: skeptic but someone who refuses to play the role of dunce-with-his-head-in-the-sand.
That said, this is the part where I opine about consistency in politics. The second link is about the warm weather in ‘06 and that is used - correct me if I’m wrong - to buttress the point that it’s due to global warming. Soooooooo, that means that if there is a drop in temp next year (or the next, or the next) then that likewise should be used to buttress the point that global warming is NOT quite as alarming as it’s being presented. I mean, if the yearly temp is to be pointed at, it’s to be used whether or not the numbers are to our liking. And that includes the “of course it will fluctuate, but my point still stands” moments as that statement could be used by the we’re causing global warming’ skeptics as an excuse for this year’s rise in temp.
So, shall I bookmark this and use in the future when the temp drops a bit (and it will) or just simply note that sometimes we all get a bit anxious whenever we see something that we think will reinforce our own pet causes?
Honestly, if someone is arguing from the position that 1 years’ temperature - outside its calculation into the overall trends & statistics - is evidence for global warming, no matter which side they are on, they are probably too ignorant of the issue to debate it. You, I, or anyone else would be doing them a favor - rather than debating them - to politely mention that they might want to bone up on the subject & come back later.
On the other hand warm seasons are a known effect of global warming, and global warming is a well-observed trend. It is sensible to say that this year’s warm weather is likely, and in part - a result of global warming. That would include this year’s contribution to the arctic or antarctic melts, and probably some portion of this year’s severe weather patterns.
Statements about one year’s weather in terms of “see what we are causing” are more or less fair game. Statements about one year’s weather as though they make a statistical difference in discussion over whether the globe is warming is happening are too dumb for debate.
So, yeah - bookmark this if you want a referee for future discussions.
Temperature up, power bill down. I’m sitting here in shorts. It is 70+ degrees on December 18th in the mountains of North Georgia.
I guess that just goes to show that nothing is all bad. I know I am going to be sorry one of these days but for now I just cannot complain
